within the pages: a feature on children's book author/illustrator Maira Kalman, prom stories from my ex-boyfriend/staffer David and myself, the introduction of the "Gomi" series from Randy, indie-pop haikus and Jeremy's tale of the Sub Pop Mini Mart.
interesting facts: This was the first issue of copacetic with Tobin J. Kitten!
the copacetic contest for this issue: The ever-cool band The Swirlies are caught in a record contract with Taang! Records, a label that they don't care too much for. Therefore, the contest was to write a mean letter to Curtis at the label. The members of The Swirlies loved this idea and happily autographed one of their really cool posters for the prize --- it is now the proud possession of Pablo St. Chaos of Dallas, Texas.
my favorite things about this issue: I was thrilled that the concert pictures I took (of The Swirlies and Spinanes) printed out so nicely. I was worried they would print into big, black blobs.
my least favorite things about this issue: The layout is so messy, I relented and published a picture of myself although I initially swore I would never, ever do that, the spelling and grammar were atrocious again.
reviews:
"Apparently, there's a number three out, but I haven't seen it yet. Anyway, Copacetic #2 is just as pretty as #1 with a nice, pink satiny cover (oh la la)! Janice is an indie-pop goddess, and there's a tonne of reviews in here, as well as the Winona Watch (hee-hee), Gomi stories (go, Hell Kitty, go!) and Janice's experience at the prom. Nicer than a pudding pie!" --- Once again, Elizabeth Chorney, from that wonderful zine, Boy Crazy
"We like Janice's zine bunches. In addition to all the indie shows she sees (the same bands I get to see!) and takes pictures. So she's got Spinanes, Grifters, Swirlies pictures. Ugh. Prom stories. Funny indiepop haikus (a hilarious Boyracer one). The funniest thing is her story about working her fanny off to get this issue out before her 25% off coupon expired." --- Jeffrey Kickbright
