Oh man, this is SO good! This is the solo project of Chad Hanson, formerly of Mines, who were one of Mike's favorite local bands. Sadly, we have to report that Chad has left the Emerald City for Brooklyn, NY. Which sucks for Mines, but is wonderful for Field Notes!

Rather than the more rockin' sounds we got with Mines, Hanson's solo debut it more stripped-down, acoustic, dare I say, pensive? "Full Circle" is a lovely Elliott Smith-esque track, that ends with an unexpected flurry of fuzzy feedback as Hanson sings softly, "We've come full circle."

There are some more upbeat numbers as well (which were apparently recorded with his former Mines bandmates before he left for the other coast). "Strangest Things" is definitely one of the more rocking tunes, yet it still has a tinge of melancholy to it, thanks mostly to Hanson's wonderful vocals. Dare I say it? He kinda reminds me of copacetic zine's infamous rockstar crush, Archer Prewitt! (Just listen to his voice swoon in "These Days" if you doubt me...) And this is one of the highest compliments one could get from me. (janice.10.05)
