brother jt
indoor sunshine • heavy g records • 2005

Here's a tip for bands: if you want to get in our good graces here at copacetic zine, put a nice kitty on your album cover. Brother JT, a.k.a. John Terlesky, has a long recording career that is esteemed among Nuggets-worshipping record-shop-clerk types, both with now-defunct garage band The Original Sins and as a solo artist. He recorded this solo disc at home, and as a result, it's mostly layers of JT's proficient guitar playing, his voice, and some bass and minimal percussion. The style here is super-mellow psychedelic stoner-rock with gentle, positive-vibe lyrics. There's not a ton of variety here—things generally fall along the spectrum of "fairly psychedelic" to "very psychedelic", with just a touch of country flavor here and there—but it's a sweet, friendly album with a warm, easygoing feel, and if I had to, I would guess that JT is a nice guy. I get the sense that, at this point in his career, JT is happy just to play his music and put out low-key discs like this without any other kind of agenda or motives, and to that I would say, right on, Brother.
