chasing liberty
starring mandy moore, mark harmon • comedy • 2004 • rated pg-13

review: I'm going to skip the plot summary and all that stuff and just get straight to the point: DON'T RENT THIS!

I had heard it was a "modern-day Roman Holiday" and morbid curiousity set in, so I Netflix-ed it. Oh, if I could give anything to have the experience erased from my brain!

Instead of the beautiful, charming Princess Ann, we get the bratty, spoiled Anna Foster, the president's daughter. Like Ann, Anna wants to experience normal teenage life, so she escapes from her Secret Service agents and runs around Europe with a mysterious young man (instead of the handsome reporter-in-disguise played with irrestible charm by Gregory Peck, we get a Secret-Service-agent-in-disguise played by the easily-forgettible Matthew Goode).

Oh, but the point is? Try as they might, this is NO ROMAN HOLIDAY! There was absolutely no reason for this movie to be made! If you're interested in seeing this movie, please please please do yourself a favor and go straight to the classic original. This movie is such a travesty, just knowing it got made makes me sad.
