review: It was a super-rainy Thursday night, but Mike and I managed to score a sweet parking spot right across from the EMP, so yay! :)

This was such an awesome bill! I had never heard of local band Sorry before, but Chris had been raving about 'em, so I was looking forward to seeing them play. And they were just as great as Chris said they would be! They played really energetic power pop with two brothers switching off lead vocals and bass/guitar duties and pulling off some truly killer harmonies! Just really, really impressive! I was instantly reminded of The Posies and the flawless harmonies of Ken and Jon. And then after their set was over, their drummer got up, turned around, and I saw the back of his shirt said..."The Posies"! I called it! :)

Also, I just gotta say, I love their band name. Maybe someday I'll get tired of the schtick, but it never failed to make me laugh when they'd say, "Hi, we're Sorry..." and "We're Sorry, we're from Auburn". Also, I loved how they had the "Sorry" game board on their bass drum! So, so clever!

And then our friend's band, Slomo Rabbit Kick, took the stage, er...corner of the bar...and played some wonderfully quirky pop! I don't really like to review my friends' bands, so I'll just say they were awesome, as usual, and leave it at that! :) They debuted one of the Duran Duran songs they're going to perform at the Valentine's Day Duran Duran tribute show later this month at the Sunset Tavern, and the girl who's going to take over lead vocals from Jay on this cover got up there to sing, and then ran off, saying, "Keep playing, guys! I gotta go grab the lyrics from my purse!" HA!
